Have you replaced the control unit (circuit board) in the speedo yet? I have
seen this same problem several times on personal and customer vans, and the
cure was always to replace that. If my memory is correct, it was around $30
at the dealer.

Subject: Oil pressure problems again...
Hello friends,
I'm having the dreaded oil pressure warning lamp and buzzer go off
erratically
in my 1990, 2100cc Vanagon GL. It happens both with a cold and warm motor,
at
high or low revs. I've changed both oil pressure sender units and checked
the
oil pressure at a VW garage, to no avail. Does anyone have schematics of the
relevant circuitry? It should show TWO oil pressure senders, some brains on
the instrument panel, a lamp and a buzzer. I want to monitor these senders
so
that if I get the warning I'll know who's the culprit (the senders, the
instrument panel, or maybe something else).
I've been waiting over a month for a Hayes Vanagon manual from the Bus Depot
with no news yet, and who knows when I'll get. I don't want to burn a motor
in
the wait...(been there, done that...:-(
Thanks in advance...
Amnon
(P.S. please send a copy of your response to my home address,
techno@actcom.co.il, since I don't get this list there. I couldn't join the
list from there, for some weird reason).
