Damn, I almost bought a '90 Westy Synchro ( back in '90), talked the dealer down to $23,375.00 from a starting price of $26,000.00. The snag was the trade in of my 1986 Mazda RX-7, which only had 19K miles on it. They offered me around $4,000.00, for it ( which was where they were making up the dif. from the starting price, plus some). I told them I'd sell it myself and be back if they'd still sell the Westy at that price with no trade, which they agreed. BTW, VW dealer said they would'nt stock these, they were special order only. Well, it took 8 long months, but I finally sold the RX-7, at a yard sale of all things, but I got $8,500.00 for it. But, we were having the yard sale because we were buying a new house, and I'm sure you can figure the rest of the story. If these things are selling today at these prices, then the Westy would have been a better deal than the house. The bottom fell out of the housing market in late 1990, and I lost my a** when I sold that house 5 yrs later. Oh well. Jeff S.
