I'd be a little cautious about the 170k Vanagon pulling a trailer, but if you had the motor, steering, suspension, and brakes in top notch shape, sure. As far as the Jetta goes, if it says it will do it in the manual, why not? Just make sure the same mechanicals are squared away, and do it. G. Hi, my name is Joseph Badger and I currently have a 1990 Vanagon Carat with about 170,000 miles. I also have a 1996 Jetta GLS. Would you tow a boat and trailer weighing less than 1,000 pounds combined with either? The owners manual says 1,350 pounds for an "unbraked" trailor. If so would trailor this, where do you recommend getting a hitch that will work with US type trailor mounts? Joseph
