I disagree with your mechanic.  I do question at times the necessity of
using phosphate free antifreeze, but I can't come with any reason not to use
it since it is available.  I do believe that distilled water is worth it's
weight in gold.  Tap water and even bottled drinking water is loaded with
impurities.  Buy the antifreeze and the distilled water yourself and make
him do it again.
