Subject:Interesting problem

Hi folks,

Had an interesting thing happen today. At lunch break, I
went out to fill my expansion tank (bit of a leak dontcha know!)
when I noticed that there were tiny oil spatters all over the intake
plenum. Anyways, the hose that connects the crankcase breather
valve to the intake was completely busted through. The pipe was
flattened and rotten & there was a big gash in the side of it.
The pipe disintegrated as I removed it.

Off to the FLAPS, picked up a bit of pipe for $0.52 & stuck
it in. Being the macho sort :) I left the engine running while
I was fitting the new one. I noticed quite a bit of blowback from
the crankcase - nothing major, just a bit. Is this normal??
I've just re-ringed the engine 5K miles ago & it seems to be
running normally. Hmph!

So, as I fitted on the second end of the pipe the engine
idle note changed - idle increased slightly & seemed 'smoother'.
I'm guessing that without the pipe connected the intake was
sucking in air & bypassing the AFM. Would this be correct?
My engine seems *much* nicer now!!

Regards,

Pete C (just curious)
