I am sure this list will find the importation process interesting. Any
Chance the list could be updated with Delev's progress?
I once looked into importing a Land Rover from England and found this much
out:
It used to be that any U.S. Citizen could import one vehicle into the U.S.
from any country once within their lifetime. No Questions Asked, they only
had to pay estimated Duty/Taxes. This law was changed in 1991 and now only
applies to vehicles 25 years old or older. I can't help but think that the
law was changed as the result of the importing of "Grey Market" Mercedes
during the 80's. I seem to remember Mercedes not being pleased about having
their throats cut with their own product.
The rules are very confusing, If anyone can figure out the NHTSA rules and
Numbering system please share it with the group.
Anyway I suppose it could be done. Here are some links with info.
