While it has been a while since I read about them, evidently lots of applications use, or USED to use natural gas in compression-ignition motors...from pumping stations to power plants. It only requires a small amount of "carrier oil" to ignite the gas/air mixture. At a library book sale I picked up a bunch of OLD books from the 1930's-1950's on diesel engines and they described the above in detail. gmbulley -----Original Message----- From: R.Joseph Murphy [SMTP:joseppi@THE-SPA.COM] Sent: Friday, August 27, 1999 10:27 AM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Re: Running Diesel Engines on Propane Hey Folks, I believe that Freightliner is comming out next year with a duel fueled truck series for urban short run/ smog areas. Propane and diesel - something about the EPA and % of fleet requirements. So this vehical starts on diesel until warm then switches to propane. and of course if you run out of propane back to diesel to get home. joseph 85 5-cly Turbo diesel vanagon (with 12000 mi trip to alaska below it's belt)
