Best results for the least cost and  trouble is by getting a bottle of
"Simple Green". Spray full strength on a cold engine,  wait a few minutes
and  hose off.  Really grungy spots that the first dose missed may need a
repeat and perhaps just a bit of light scrubbing.
     Beats every "engine cleaner" I have ever used.
