well i measured the current draw to the blower motor and it's a maximum of 12 A.

current draw measured at the fuse with the defroster, wipers, and heater on is 15-15.8A. Hit the spray on the wipers and you've exceeded the fuse rating!

So hats off to the list member who told me to add a separate circuit for the fan because the VW engineers didn't leave enough overhead on the 16A fuse. This saved me a lot of aggrivation from removing the blower :)
