It indeed runs continuously in 12v mode.  I've rewired mine to use the
thermostat, but I'm a bit concerned about the contacts in the thermostat
and plan to insert a relay to take the actual switching load.  DPDT toggle
switch with the toggle cut short to shift the thermostat from AC to DC.
