John-Reed,

I am in the same boat, except I know how to remove them, I just can't
access the back of them with enough purchase to sqeeze the tabs
(_horizontally_) to get them off. Actually, I did manage after removing
the instrument cluster to get the driver's side off. The passenger
(right) side was extreeeeeemly dificult to reach with my arm/hand but I
could not manage to exert the proper force. We knee a
contortionist-10-million-dollar-man to do the right side.

Some one pointed out to me that the hose can be crimped or squeezed by
the tank/reservoir as it is installed. I haven't checked this yet, but
I'm hoping that is the problem.

Until then I'm carrying my bicycle, squeezable water-bottle, just like I
did in the '72.
