No problem anymore.  The verdict is in.  A THROWN ROD.  I have never heard
one go this quiet.  It wasn't even a possibility in my mind until I got the
message from my mechanic.  Looks like it's gonna get an '86 Jetta Turbo D in
it (on the bright side).
