This was not meant to be racist, but rather a political reality.
I spent 2 years in the Middle East as an advisor in the 80's.
Kidnapping was and is a real possibility.  Jokes about travel in
a dangerous part of the world are not racist. Would you call
State Department warnings about travel in Northern Ireland, East
Timor, or the Middle East racist.  What is the Indonesian phrase
for " That is a nice machete"?  <G>  Sorry, but I am being
realistic with a little humor.
