One question I have for EV owners.  Is the place where first gear is located
when shifting different than where it is for the Vanagon (ie Vanagon first is
toward the dash)?  Is the EV position of first back toward the driver?
Just wondering if this is why I had such a poor experience test driving a '93
EV a few months ago.

I know there is a picture on the shifter but when was the last time you
looked at one?
