Lucas- The heat on your 1981 CAN work, and can actually heat you out of the van. Check out our site. For far less than the cost of a secondary heat source, you can have real heat from your air cooled motor. Went camping on the Blue Ridge Parkway over the past few days in our 1982 Westy; over night temps around 30 F, daytime highs around 50 F. Drove with the heat at about 10-20%. 100% would become unbearable within a minute or two. Don't give up. http://www.bulley-hewlett.com/VWindex . G. I was wondering if any one has had decent experience with DC heaters (I have an extra battery)? Names of manufacturers, retailers, and any improv installation work is appreciated. Regards, Lucas C.
