I agree that it looks a little odd, but don't be too quick to laugh.  Time after time I have seen or heard something I thought was bound to fail but I was wrong.  I remember when the beetle was still a rarity people would point and make disparaging comments (my first beetle had semaphores and it wasn't very old) and the bus wasn't always cool.  I do think the "new bus" needs a bit more ground clearance, though.
