Wow, that guy really saw you coming! Find another mechanic, fast! I still have the original rotors and drums on my '84 after 200k+ miles. "New pads/shoes on old metal will cause warping"--what crap. If you replace your pads and shoes before they score up the metal surfaces they rub on you can go many, many miles on a set of drums and rotors. You can even live with minor scoring if you need to save money (less than 1/32"). It is not necessary to routinely turn drums and disks when replacing the shoes or pads if there is no pedal pulsing, steering wheel wobble, or scoring. In fact, due to weight savings for fuel economy, many cars do not, in fact, have enough metal on the rotors to turn them safely. I don't know about the Vanagon, because it has never come up! If you do need rotors or drums due to one of the above circumstances, check with the list vendors first, as well as for the pads and shoes. -- Stuart MacMillan Manager, Case Program 800-909-8244 ext 208 Getting your share of the Net yet? http://www.cobaltgroup.com http://www.casedealer.com/demo http://www.caseihdealer.com/demo
