Took the family today to Big Bear Mountain (8000ft) good thing for the turn outs every 1/4 mile. Kept up with a school bus but had to let everyone else go by including tractor trailer trucks. Maintained 25 to 30mph in second gear. We reached a section where construction was going on so we all came to a stop...at that point the oil light turned on and L/O temp was about 230-240 degrees F. The good news the westy made round trip with no failures and got about 25 mpg down hill. Its amazing that the wasserboxes have much more power than the air cooled it remines me when I bought my first car 65 vw bug I believe it had a 1300cc. I remember when a super beetle passed me up a hill like I was standing still and I had the petal to the metal. Is there some inexpensive way to get a few HP out of the 82 westy? How about nitrious when you really need it? Andy 82 Westy
