Subject:'83 Westy Fridge Won't Light
From:Todd Evans

Hello all,

I am new to Westfalias. My wife and I recently bought an '83 Westy and we
are in the process of testing out the equipment. I'm having trouble
getting the refrigerator pilot to light. I have read through some of the
archives so I know this is a common problem with at least several possible
causes.

Here's what I have done so far:

- Filled the propane tank
- Opened the propane valve
- Fired up the stove for a couple of minutes (works great!)
- Followed the VW Camper Users Manual directions for lighting
- Followed the instructions inside the fridge for lighting
- Tried attaching a rubber tube to the small valve at the bottom left of
the fridge and sucked a lot but didn't taste any propane, just a bunch of
dirt. BTW isn't that valve used to drain condensation from the line? I
was following a suggestion in the archives but again I'm new to this so I
may have been sucking on the wrong valve - so to speak.
- Took off the flue vent cover and didn't find any spiders living in there
although I can only see an inch or so into the hoses.

None of this has solved the problem and I'm still interested in getting to
the source of it before paying my mechanic to figure it out. Any help is
appreciated.
